splatter

- splendida full black edition ltd 1000 under blossoming noise

The first recorded collaboration between these two giants of Japanese noise/Improv is as sprawling and excessive as we might expect, thank heavens for that. Mamono is 67 minutes of delirious electronic chaos, with both taking turns at the drum stool and hurling their wild vocals into the spluttering psychedelic vortex of the music. The early stages, though absolutely feral by most commonly recognised standards, essentially represent the pair limbering up for the huge monoliths that comprise the final two thirds of the disc. When Null unleashes his thunderous tom-tom salvos on the final piece, and Haino matches him with a quite ridiculous (though quite brilliant) pomp-Goth keyboard line, it's like Tangerine Dream's Atem to the power of a billion. Even better are the pair of short pieces based around Haino's extraordinary guitar, which starts off dry and wiry, more The Slits' Viv Albertine than Bailey or Frith, and then slowly mutates into what sounds like all Glenn Branca's symphonies playing at once.
